Welcome to 2021 Hustlers! Believe it or not, we’re already halfway through January and we can’t let this year go unnoticed. We all agree that 2020 didn’t count, so it’s up to us to make this the best year yet! We all have new years resolutions, but do we actually get to achieve all of them? Here are some of my best tips to start the year off right!
Make healthy choices a habit
In anything, whether it’s trying to get into a new diet or a new exercise routine, going extreme never works out. You start really motivated, maybe follow it for a couple of weeks, or even a month, but then give up. So how do we make something a habit? We follow James Clear’s 4 Stages of Habit:
- Cue – something that triggers a behavior
- Craving – the motivational force
- Response – actual habit you do
- Reward – end goal of a habit
But how do we actually make this happen? We need to ask ourselves some questions:
- How can I make what I want obvious?
- How can I make it attractive?
- How can I make it easy?
- How can I make it satisfying?
This is where a lot of us make a mistake, especially in number 3. I have been guilty of this myself; we think that we need to achieve our goal as fast as possible and therefore make it super hard for ourselves. This is why it’s never good to be unrealistic, because you aren’t making it easy for yourself, which means it won’t work out most of the time and you will give up. For example, instead of cutting out all sugars, using sugar alternatives or simply eating a bite instead of a whole slice of cake makes it a lot easier to maintain.
It’s small choices like this that will eventually make a difference. You might start small, but remember Hustlers, your health journey should be a marathon, not a sprint!
Manifest your goals
How many of us have so many things we wish would happen to us or that we wish we would do, but never actually follow through? I know I do; which is why manifesting your goals is key to success!
Journaling is amazing for this! By writing your goals down, they become real and tangible, no longer just ideas in your head. In fact, the act of writing your goals down stimulates the reticular activating system (RAS) in your brain, which classifies the things you write down as more important, therefore they are more likely to sink in and you will remember them!
Creating a vision board, is also a great alternative to journaling if writing is not your forte. Instead, find pictures on the internet, words, and visuals that represent the journey as well as the success in achieving your goals. Once you have all of those put together, make sure to place your vision board in a location where you will be able to see it every single day, the more the better. Looking at your vision board repeatedly will keep you motivated and inspired as you will be constantly thinking and visualizing your end goal.
Visualization is also a key technique to help you achieve all your goals. You have to visualize yourself succeeding at the goal, so picture it already accomplished. Think of how you look, feel, and think in that moment. This is key because the feeling of satisfaction and accomplishment is what will motivate you to want to fulfill all your goals.
Hustlers, there is a difference between hoping that something happens, and choosing for it to happen, and these techniques will help you remember that. You can’t just wait for things to drop on your lap, you have to make a conscious decision, and work for your goals.
Make it public!
Tell your friends, significant other, or anyone in your life, the goals that you are trying to achieve this year. This will make your goals more present in your mind, and they will give you support and encouragement when you need it! It’s always great to have someone motivate and push you in the right direction whenever you are feeling like straying from your goals.
So Hustlers, use the energy of the new year and give yourself the best fighting chance.
Hustle on,
M
